Mátyás Büki

He is a permanent member of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio. He graduated from the Academy of Music as a violinist in 1976. He got acquainted with films through his friendship with the András Szirtes - András Sólyom - Imre Papp trio at the Amateur Film Club at Eötvös Loránd University. He composed music for their films, and he wrote the literary script of András Szirtes's film called Lenz (1986). Lately he has also been dealing with film reviews with musical aspects.

Zoltán Dragon

Born in 1975, Zoltán Dragon graduated from the University of Szeged as an English and American Studies major, with both theses written on film adaptation and film theory. He spent a semester at the Department of American Studies, University of Hull, specializing in film adaptation studies, and went for the Master of Philosophy degree, conducting research ont he films of István Szabó, in the joint degree program of Open University, UK and Central European University, Hungary (degree awarded in 2005). Currently he teaches courses on film theory, American film history, film adaptation, and visual culture at the Department of American Studies, Institute of English and American Studies, University of Szeged. Research areas: psychoanalysis and film, American film, film adaptation, visual and digital culture. His book, The Spectral Body: Aspects of the Cinematic Oeuvre of István Szabó was published by Cambridge Scholars Press in 2006, and he is currently co-authoring (with Réka M. Cristian) another book: Encounters of the Filmic Kind: A Guidebook to Film Theories. His further publications have appeared in Filmkultúra, Filmtett, Metropolis, The Anachronist, and VLNA (Slovakia).

Eszter Fazekas

She was born in Budapest in 1960. She graduated from Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Arts with a degree in Hungarian language and literature, librarianship and aesthetics. She worked for Budapestfilm, then for the Hungarian National Filmarchives, she is an archivist of Hungarian feature films in the socialist era, consultant on film renovation, one of the revisers of Moving Picture Gallery CD-ROM series, a collaborator of the Book of Hungarian Directors. Since 1982 she has written articles for Filmkultúra, Metropolis, Filmvilág and other periodicals. In the year 2000 she published a book (together with Károly Csala) on the cameraman, Lajos Koltai, entitled A fény festője (The Painter of Light).

Iván Forgács

He was born on 28 June 1958 in Budapest. In 1983 he took a degree as a teacher of Hungarian and Russian language and literature at Eötvös Loránd University. He also acquired a diploma at the Translating and Interpreting Course of the university. Since 1984 he has been working for the Hungarian National Filmarchives. Between 1990 and 1992 he was the leader of the research group of the institution.He was editor-in-chief of Filmkultúra between 1993 and 1995. He is the establisher and editor-in-chief of the periodical entitled Moveast published in English on East Eropean films. He also founded the periodical called Filmspirál, in which he regularly publishes. His writings deal with East-European film art, he is working on the popularisation of this field. In 1997 he made a documentary on the situation of Hungarian film entitled A mi filmünk tovább forog (Our films keeps rolling on). He has written articles for Filmkultúra, Filmvilág and MovEast, he has also worked for the Moving Picture Gallery CD-ROM, the Filmlexikon published in 1995 and for the book called Jelbeszéd az életünk (Signlanguage) edited by Ágnes Kapitány and Gábor Kapitány.

Krisztina Horeczky

She was born in Budapest on 23 August 1971. Final exams: at the secondary school specialized at economics in Gömb street. Studies of journalism: from 1994 at Magyar Hírlap journalistic studio, cultural journalism. Higher education: Janus Pannonius University, Faculty of Arts, studied cultural affairs and the history of classical and modern theatre. Publications: October 1994 - July 1995: Magyar Hírlap, cultural column, freelance author
July 1995 - October 1998: Magyar Nemzet, cultural column, freelance author
Since 1998 her interviews have been published in the cultural column of Magyar Narancs, she also writes for Élet és Irodalom.
January 2000 - October 2001: she is the night editor of Galenus Publishing Ltd (periodicals and journals for pharmacologists and pharmacist assistants Patika Magazin, Egészségünk A-Z-ig, editor of Endre Czeizel's book entitled Költők és gének -Poets and Genes.)
She regularly publishes in Filmtett and Filmkultúra.

Levente Polyák

Born in Budapest in 1979. Since 1997 he has been a student of Architecture, Cultural Anthropology, Aesthetics and Sociology. In 2001 he worked in Istanbul as a travel agent. In the meanwhile, he has become more and more interested in contemporary urban issues, and has started to experiment with diverse ways of analysing the urban phenomena in his works. Member of the Bercsényi Association of Architecture and of the Erasmus Collegium. With the NGO Lokál Association, he has been an organiser of several professional debates since 2003 and of the 2004 art exhibition Local Value. Participant in diverse urban research programmes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and member of international urban information networks. In 2005 he was a student at the Sorbonne in Paris. He publishes articles regularly in journals of architecture, social sciences and art.

Adrien Kovács, editor

Born in Mosonmagyaróvár in 1967. Higher education: Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Arts, majoring in Hungarian and History, later Scandinavian studies. Following a scholarship in Sweden she got her diploma in 1991. For four years she taught Hungarian at various Berlitz schools in the New York area. After a year spent in Munich, Germany she started to at the Hungarian Filmarchives as an editor of Fimkultúra in 1996. Proud mother of a 4-year-old son.

dr. Györgyi Pónyai

She was born in 1972 in Budapest. She got her doctor's degree in 1996 at Semmelweis University of Medical Science. She is an assistant at the university, she is a practising dermatologist, and she writes articles in this field. In 2001 she took her degree at the Hungarian College of Dance in "dance theory criticism". She has been writing reviews on Hungarian and foreign dance productions, guest performances and festivals. She is a permanent member of staff of the periodical entitled Zene zene Tánc. She is married, her daughter called Panna was born in April, 2003. P>

 

 
 

Andrea Pócsik

She was born in 1966 in Hajdúszoboszló. After taking her degree in Hungarian and Russian language and literature she spent a year in London. When she returned home she worked for a language school. Meanwhile her interest turned towards motion picture aesthetics, therefore she attended a two-year course on film propagating. During her studies she gained the Péter Józsa scholarship from Motion Picture Foundation of Hungary, and she could start to translate David Bordwell's work entitled Narrative in Fiction Films into Hungarian. (The book was published in 1996 by Hungarian National Filmarchives, it was edited by Gábor Gelencsér.) Then she worked at the programme department of Örökmozgó. In 1997 she obtained a degree as a motion picture teacher. At present she lives in the country, her articles and translations are published in different periodicals on motion picture.

He was born in 1975 in Budapest.

Lóránt Stőhr

He was born on 13 May 1974 in Budapest. He graduated with a degree as a teacher of mathematics from the Science Faculty of Eötvös Loránd University in 1999. In 2001 he took a degree in motion picture science at the Academy of Drama and Film, where he is now attending a DLA (Doctor of Liberal Arts) programme. Since 1997 his reviews and essays have been published in different periodicals and daily papers. Since 1999 he has been a film critic of Élet és Irodalom.

He was born in Budapest in 1973. He attended a course on film propagating and marketing at Vitéz János Teacher Training College in Esztergom, then he took a course at Budapest Media Institute for a year. He was a trainee journalist at the editorial office of Népszabadság and Petőfi Rádió. In 2000 he took a degree as a communication expert at the University of Szeged. His publications have come out in the following media: Artitura, Filmkultúra, Filmvilág, InfoRádió, magyar.film.hu, (i.e.: hungarian.film.hu) Hungarian Television - Regional Studio of Szeged, University of Szeged, Local Television of Szeged, and Világgazdaság.
