András Kozák (1943-2005)

András Kozák was born on February 23rd 1943 in then Vencsellő, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. After graduating at the College for Theatre and Cinematic Art he performed in the Szigligeti Theatre of Szolnok, then from 1966 to 1991 in the Thália, and the Arizona Theatre.

„He played heroes and character roles, restless peasants and intellectual figures, who wish to emancipate themselves from their plights. The leading character in Miklós Jancsó’s films and the new wave movies of the sixties passed away at the age of 62. The Kossuth and Jászai prize winner, merited and outstanding artist died after a protracted and grave illness on the night of from February 23rd to 24th.He was awarded the Jászai Mari Prize in 1971 and 1978. He was granted the title of Merited Artist and Outstanding Artist in 1981, and 1990 respectively. He was awarded the Pro Hungarian Art Prize in 1993, and the Kossuth Prize in 1996.
